Is my clipboard data private?

Yes. Your text is stored only in your own browser using localStorage. When you use sync, text travels through a temporary WebSocket connection that does not save anything on any server. Sync sessions end the moment you close the tab. We cannot see or access your clipboard content.

Do I need to create an account to use this?

No. The clipboard tool, sync, and file share all work without any account. Creating an account is optional and only needed if you want clipboard history, more than 2 device connections, or larger file transfers on the Pro plan.

How does clipboard sync work technically?

When you create a sync room, both devices connect to the same WebSocket channel using a shared room code. Any text change on one device is sent through the WebSocket to the other device in milliseconds. Data is not stored anywhere. The connection is temporary and closes when you leave.

What is the difference between this and emailing yourself?

Speed and simplicity. Emailing yourself requires opening email, composing, sending, switching device, opening email, finding the message. With ClipboardSyncer you just type and it appears on the other device instantly. No inbox clutter, no steps, no waiting.

Can multiple people use the same room code?

Yes. Open clipboardsyncer.com in Safari or Chrome on your iPhone or iPad. The tool works the same as on desktop. You can sync between iPhone and a Windows PC, iPad and a Mac, or any combination of devices.

What happens when I close the tab?

Your sync connection ends immediately and no data is stored on any server. However, the text you had in the clipboard area remains saved in your browser's localStorage. Next time you visit, your text will still be there.

Is there a character limit?

There is no hard character limit for the clipboard tool. Browser localStorage typically supports 5 to 10 MB of text. For sync, we recommend keeping text under 1 MB for the fastest transfer. The word and character counter below the text area shows your current usage.

How is this different from Apple Universal Clipboard or Windows clipboard history?

Apple Universal Clipboard only works between Apple devices. Windows clipboard history (Win+V) only works on a single Windows machine. ClipboardSyncer works between any devices regardless of brand or operating system, as long as they have a web browser.

Can I use this for code snippets?

Yes. The text area uses a monospace font and preserves indentation, tabs, special characters, and line breaks exactly as you paste them. Developers use it to move code between machines without losing formatting.
